The book, Steve: A Shelter Cat was inspired by C.C. Calton’s own cat “Houdini” who was adopted at The Best Friends Organization in Mission Hills. As soon as she and her husband met this odd little guy, they fell in love with his long teeth and squishy chin. A few weeks after adoption, his unique personality surfaced and revealed a goofy and sweet demeanor. The message of the book is to shed light on how special needs and senior animals are just as worthy of love and to educate all on the importance of pet adoption.
